The 15 islands of the Cooks lie halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii in the South Pacific, scattered across 2.2 million square kilometres of a seductive, sensual ocean. Boasting rare beauty, an idyllic climate, warm welcoming people and a pace of life unsurpassed for peace. The Cook Islands is an Island Paradise shrouded in traditions and legends handed down from generation to generation since the arrival of the Polynesians - believed to be around 800AD.  The Northern Group of islanders are thought to be from Samoa and Tonga and the Southern Group largely from the Society Islands and the Marquesas; and are part of what was believed to be the last great wave of Polynesian migration from Asia, which began as far back as 1500BC.

It was also around 800 to 1000AD that Raiatea in the Society Islands became established as the centre of culture and religion in the Pacific and dispatched voyagers to Hawaii, the Tuamotu Archipelago and also the Cooks, to rule over the islands. It was they who brought the religion, cultural traditions, medicine and the language – which was Maori.

Indulge in the pleasure of Pacific food – listen to the strums of the ukulele, the beat of the drums or swing with the sway of dancing hips. Discover the great outdoors and fish, snorkel, dive, paddle and swim in a brilliant blue sea.
Climb the magnificent peaks lush with native vegetations and alive with song birds. Or simply stroll through the pearly sands and stop awhile to look at the twinkling sunbeams on a white crested reef.

Tulum was an ancient Mayan fortress city that rose to power toward the end of the Classic period. The most iconic of its structures, the Castillo, is perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the clear turquoise blue waters of the Caribbean. The cliff-top Castillo, with its beachfront location and lush green landscape, is the image most often associated with the Mayan Riviera.

Once upon a time across the bluest of oceans, an island was born of lava and sand - an untouched paradise whose heart was a turquoise lagoon of unimaginable beauty and tranquility. The first visitors came and explored. To honour the magic of the place, they named it "Likuliku", meaning "calm waters".

Likuliku Lagoon Resort is a haven of subtle luxury and the first and only resort in Fiji with over-water bures.   It is a unique and special place designed with integrity to cultural values, traditional designs and architecture, and is embraced by the renowned warmth of the Fijian people.

From the water it looks like an ancient village, so traditional is the style.   The beating heart of the Resort is a magnificent building in the design of a Fijian canoe house.   Surrounded by sprawling ceilings, hand-woven thatch and an exotic mix of natural materials and modern elements, Likuliku embodies the richness of an ancient culture with vibrant present-day lifestyle touches.

Welcome to Fiji's most unique luxury escape for couples.

     Welcome to your magical sanctuary.

    Mazatlan-

I have been studying and testing on Mazatlan recently and was fascinated by what I learned so I thought I’d share a little.  They call it the Colonial City on the Beach because it was founded in the late 1500’s and they have recently restored their downtown area to its former glory. It’s all 19th century Spanish architecture and has shops, restaurants, museums and a theater arts Center.  Also, Mazatlan has a pre-lenten Carnaval week long street party in addition to gorgeous beaches, sport fishing, zip lining, surfing and 4 golf courses. Mazatlan also has excursions to old mining towns and a tequila plantation!  It really seems to have something for everyone and has the benefit of being really affordable as a destination.

I have been trying to get this posted since we got back- I couldn’t get my pictures downloaded on my computer at work, and my home computer is having a meltdown so I am going to post with out the pictures-sorry, I will however let you know that the view from my balcony was unbelievable I over looked the pools and out onto the beach and ocean. I don’t think you could get a room with a bad view if you tried-We got back from Puerto Vallarta last week. You may have heard, we were staying at the Grand Velas

Riviera Nayarit. What an awesome experience the resort was. The grounds are beautiful, with plenty of seating through out the property to just sit and relax. Every inch of the resort is super clean, as a matter of fact during an early breakfast, I watched as they raked and swept the beach. I only had the opportunity to eat at 2 of the resorts restaurants because of time constraints. Piaf, the French restaurant (only open for dinner) on our first night was so delicious and the service was impeccable. The staff brought all the ladies in the group their own little purse rest to set our purses on and they had a rolling Martini bar that they bring up to your table to mix the Martini of your choice. We tried several, but I think the front runners were the espresso martini and the spicy cucumber martini. And Azul, (open all day) the poolside buffet restaurant with a large variety of choices from traditional Mexican to sushi. There is also an Italian restaurant and a Mexican restaurant at the resort but as I mentioned I didn’t have the time to go to them. The pools were warm and sparkling, just the right amount of refreshing in the heat with pool side service for drinks and snacks.  There is a children’s program on the property, and they have boogie boards and kayaks available.  The staff was unbelievably helpful, and tried to anticipate my needs no matter where I was in the resort, from the front desk to the poolside service or the business office. All in all I would definitely rate this experience as a 10.
